2 more Upcoming Events: Overton Square & Cobblestones

The Memphis Regional Design Center is holding its second public meeting for Overton Square on the evening of Tuesday, August 25th from 6:00 to 7:30pm at Playhouse on the Square. This meeting is for those in the community who have an interest in what happens in Overton Square but were unable to attend the last meeting in July. Please join us to share your thoughts on the future of Overton Square and review the results of the last public meeting and charrette.

Memphis Heritage, Inc. is hosting a meeting Tuesday, August 25, 4 - 6 pm at their offices, Howard Hall located at 2282 Madison Ave. at Edgewood. We will discuss the history of the Cobblestone Landing and its importance as one of the most significant landmarks in West Tennessee. The Corp of Engineers, RDC and the TN Dept of Transportation held a public meeting about the RDC's plans for the restoration project for the Cobblestone Landing on Tuesday August 11. These three groups have requested public input on their plans. Some community members have requested more information in order to clarify the present plan presented by the RDC and its impact on the integrity of the historic location. Since 1996, the Federal and State governments have approved $13M to repair the historic Cobblestone Landing. There is great interest in seeing that these dollars are spent wisely to repair, maintain, and open the public landing.
